"The Second Coming"
2 Thes 2:1-3; 15-17
Two parts of the Second Advent
a.  The blessed hope of the Christian - Christ will return for His own
1.  Titus 2:13  Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious
appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;
2.  1 Thes. 4:17-18 - 17  Then we which are alive and remain shall be
caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air:
and so shall we ever be with the Lord.  Wherefore comfort one another
with these words.
a.  Change our vile bodies - Phil 3:20-21 - 20  For our conversation
is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord
Jesus Christ: Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned
like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is
able even to subdue all things unto himself.
b.  Deliver us from the wrath to come - 1 Thes 1:10 - 10  And to wait
for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus,
which delivered us from the wrath to come.
b.  The Blessed hope of the world - Christ will return with His own
1.  Jude 14-15 - And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of
these, saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his
saints, To execute judgment upon all, and to convince all that are
ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have
ungodly committed, and of all their hard speeches which ungodly
sinners have spoken against him.
2.  Rev 1:7 - Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see
him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth
shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen.

No signs associated with the rapture - no man knows the hour nor the day
(but we can know the times and seasons)

shall come.  For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous,
boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful,
unholy,  Without natural  affection, trucebreakers, false accusers,
incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,  Traitors,
heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than
lovers of God; Having a form of godliness, but denying the power
thereof: from such turn away.

"Righteousness exalteth a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people."
Pr 14:34
A famous person once said, "America is great because America is good."
We have to now say,  "America is in a state of erosion because America is
evil."
(1)  The terrible epidemic of immorality that is engulfing our nation is
looked upon with a tragic indifference by Americans in general.
(2)  The hearts of those that love this nation, of which I am one, sadly
grieves to see the passing of the moral conscience from our beloved
America.   Could the United States be headed down a path similar to that
of
ancient Rome?  Let's look at the five reasons for Rome's downfall, as
set forth by Edward Gibbon in his classic work "The Decline and Fall
of the Roman Empire."  They are:
  1. The undermining of the dignity and sanctity of the home.
2. Increasing taxes and spending of public money for bread and
circuses.
3. The mad craze for pleasure, with sports becoming more exciting and
more brutal.
4. The building of gigantic armaments, when the real enemy is the
decadence of the people.
5. The decay of religion, with faith fading into mere form.

b.  Great national distress and perplexity
1.  Luke 21:25-28 - And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the
moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with
perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring;  Men's hearts failing them
for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the
earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken.  And then shall they
see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.
And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up
your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.

his neighbour.

valiant men are in scarlet: the chariots shall be with flaming torches
in the day of his preparation, and the fir trees shall be terribly
shaken.  The chariots shall rage in the streets, they shall justle one
against another in the broad ways: they shall seem like torches, they
shall run like the lightnings.
g.  The amassing of great wealth
1.  Jas 5:1-3 - Go to now, ye rich men, weep and howl for your
miseries that shall come upon you.  Your riches are corrupted, and
your garments are motheaten.  Your gold and silver is cankered; and
the rust of them shall be a witness against you, and shall eat your
flesh as it were fire. Ye have heaped treasure together for the last
days.

1. 1 Thes 5:1-3  - But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have

travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.
